After our tour of the Grand Canyon Caverns we hitched up and got back onto Route 66. On Maple’s mom’s recommendation we stopped for breakfast at the fantastic Westside Lilo’s Café in Seligman before continuing on to Cottonwood.

Going to visit Maple’s parents is always fun and gives us an opportunity to see new places and to revisit the beautiful old mining town of Jerome. And since Maple’s mom works as caretaker for the Verde Valley Fairgrounds in Cottonwood, AZ, we get to stay in a prime and private spot between the stables and one of the meeting halls. Read on for our review of the park.

THE GOOD:

Verde Valley Fairgrounds isn’t really an RV park, it’s the county fairgrounds that happens to have a number of RV sites. During one of our stays here we got to watch and help out with the Arizona Junior Rodeo that was being hosted here. The sites have water and electrical hookups with a central dump station near the entrance. The bathrooms are clean and functional. The staff is full of awesome people, in particular our friend Colleen who is very helpful and accommodating. It’s beautiful here, but it gets hot!

THE BAD:

As it’s not a dedicated RV Park there is no dog run, laundry room, or showers available. And if you need to dump your tanks, you have to move your rig to the dump station.

THE VERDICT:

We always enjoy staying here as it allows us to be close to Maple’s parents and the people that work here are great to us. If you’re visiting the area and you’re a boondocker or you shower in your rig, you’ll enjoy your stay here. Since our initial vist we’ve stayed here several more times and I’m sure we’ll stay here again.
