After our tour of the Grand Canyon Caverns we hitched up and got back onto Route 66. On Maple’s mom’s recommendation we stopped for breakfast at the fantastic Westside Lilo’s Café in Seligman before continuing on to Cottonwood.

Going to visit Maple’s parents is always fun and gives us an opportunity to see new places and to revisit the beautiful old mining town of Jerome. And since Maple’s mom works as caretaker for the Verde Valley Fairgrounds in Cottonwood, AZ, we get to stay in a prime and private spot between the stables and one of the meeting halls. After a few terrific days in Vegas we hitched up and put Nevada in the rear view as we headed towards Arizona to see Maple’s parents. It’s a long beautiful drive and about half way there we decided we’d take the scenic route along old Historic Route 66.

We settled into an easy 55 mph and enjoyed the drive, particularly passing all the Burma Shave signs along the road. However as the sun dropped lower and lower on the horizon and we finally decided to stop for an overnight, it seemed as if the RV parks were all behind us. Finally, just after dark, we came upon the Grand Canyon Caverns RV Park in Peach Springs and happily pulled in for the night. Read on for our review of the park.
