After a few days at the Willow Creek golf course helping out with a friend’s wedding, we hitched up and headed east towards Nevada. Knowing we’d be passing through Lassen National Forest we scheduled a few days at the Rancheria RV Park, in Hat Creek, CA.

We still weren’t quite settled into the Airstream and hadn’t dumped our tanks yet, and after all the running around we really just wanted a few days to relax before heading to Reno. And since we both love Lassen so much, we knew we would have a great time exploring while we were there. Read on for our review of the park.

THE GOOD:

Rancheria RV Park is another beautiful park surrounded by forest and easy driving distance to town and to the magical Burney Falls. The spacious sites have full hook ups and lawns with fire pits. They have a fully stocked general store that also serves hot food and they sell firewood as well.

The garbage areas are nicely spaced throughout the park. And they offer propane refills on site.

THE BAD:

We pulled in after the office was closed and they had a packet waiting for us as promised however that packet did not include a code for the bathrooms. They had just one bathroom building, located in the middle of the park. Thankfully I was able to get the code from a friendly foursome enjoying cocktails around their campfire.

Once inside the bathroom stalls were older and perfectly adequate. The showers were a bit of a mixed bag. The shower stalls were huge square shaped ‘rooms’ with benches inside them, however they had one stringy curtain in the front that covered them and did not necessarily stretch end to end. They were older and clean enough but didn’t feel private.

The staff at the general store were a mixed bag. They were friendly enough to me but they were a little rude to Maple. While there was no dog run in the park, there was plenty of nature to walk them in.

Finally, the TengoInternet WiFi at the park was awful at our site but very nice in the grassy picnic table area next to the general store. That worked just fine for me as sitting under the trees with my laptop is always a nice change of pace.

THE VERDICT:

The stay here was generally very nice. We enjoyed camp fires in the mornings and evenings and enjoyed our meals outside. The mixed staff interactions, lackluster bathrooms, and one weird condescending neighbor notwithstanding, this is a beautiful location and we would happily stay here again.
