After a week in Arizona we hitched up and settled in for a long drive back up to Humboldt County with a short stop planned in the San Francisco Bay Area. We made some stops of course while passing through Arizona and stopped for a quick overnight in the Mojave desert at a beautiful and busy rest stop. But by the end of the next day we arrived in the Bay Area.

I grew up in San Francisco so my friends and family are scattered throughout the Bay, and since we had been living in Humboldt for the last six months, this was an opportunity to spend some quality time with them. The closer to San Francisco your hotel is, the more expensive it is. Well, the same holds true for RV Parks. Marin RV Park in Larkspur, CA is no different. Is that extra price worth it? Read on for our review of the park.

THE GOOD:

Marin RV Park is located about 15 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The gravel sites have full hookups. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and there’s a laundry room near the front office. And staying here gave us our first Airstream neighbor, a wonderful couple with their 3 daughters who gave us plenty of great advice, since we were still very new to this.

THE BAD:

Because of the location, staying here is expensive! The sites are narrow, too narrow to open your awnings in fact. The bathrooms are clean and secure but there’s something vaguely creepy about them, particularly at night. Finally, there’s no dog run.

THE VERDICT:

We had a very nice time staying in this park, but unless there was some reason to need to stay here, we would not return. It’s no fault of theirs, everyone there was wonderful, it’s just too damned expensive. For less than half the price you can stay 45 minutes further north at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds and still only be an hour away from the city.
