After finishing up our trip visiting friends and family in the Bay Area, we headed north to Humboldt County to settle in for a while. On our way there we couldn’t resist a detour down the Avenue of the Giants to drive beneath the majestic redwoods.
Arriving in Humboldt we pulled into our home base for the next few months, Mad River Rapids RV Park in Arcata, CA. We were hoping to snag a monthly spot and while it took a few days, the owner was able to fit us in. Read on for our review of the park.
THE GOOD:
Mad River Rapids RV Park is a beautiful park full of trees with level sites that include full hookups, a manicured lawn, and a picnic table. There is a fully stocked mini mart in the office run by a fantastic staff and a really awesome owner. There are two laundry rooms, a swimming pool, and a hot tub. There are several bathrooms spaced throughout the park. The bathrooms are heated and have nice roomy and clean stalls. Finally, the prices are good.
THE BAD:
There really isn’t much to put in the negative column so the only nitpick I have is that the shower stalls, with the exception of the handicap stall, are a little tight. But ultimately they’re perfectly adequate and get the job done.
THE VERDICT:
Our stay at this park has been consistently good. The staff are friendly and engaging and the owner is a truly terrific guy who has helped us out on more than one occasion when he really didn’t need to. It’s in a great location if you’re visiting Humboldt to see the redwoods, play on the river, or lounge on the beach. We consider this our ‘home’ in Humboldt.
